As an engineer deeply engrossed in the world of electronics, board testing remains a critical phase in the lifecycle of any design. Every board tells a story, and it’s my task to decipher it. When testing, especially something as potent as a mains power supply, meticulousness is key.

Today, I’m shedding light on my methodical approach:

1️⃣ 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗽-𝗨𝗽: It’s not about rushing; it’s about being systematic. By carefully increasing the AC power supply output, I ensure that I’m in control, closely monitoring each step of the energization process.

2️⃣ 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝘆𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔-𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿: As I gradually raise the AC voltage, the ammeter is my trusted companion. It provides real-time feedback on current flow. Any unexpected spike or deviation is an immediate red flag, prompting a revisit of the design or components.

3️⃣ 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗢𝗻-𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲: Once the input side checks out, I shift my focus to the board’s power supply output voltage. This is the moment of truth, confirming whether the supply is performing optimally and as designed.

Now, I can go further. A few steps are already checked ✔️

🚫 Safety First! While these steps might seem straightforward, I cannot stress enough the importance of safety precautions. Always use the right tools, wear appropriate protective gear, and avoid distractions. The smallest oversight in such situations can have significant implications.

Happy and safe testing!
